WELSH COBS - BEECH HAY STUD
Welsh Cobs - Aberdeen Angus - Beef Shorthorn - Zwartbles - Equine Vet - Fishing - Caravan Site
Welsh Cobs are the most magnificent and showiest of the native ponies and this was what attracted the family to the breed in 1978 when we visited our first Llanarth sale.
Over the following few years we bought cobs from Pantanamlwg, Goyallt, Cefncoch and Cascob.
Very soon after we leased Henblas Hudwr Du from Mr Alf Abbot and then bought a half share in the stallion.
One very ordinary mare Dolcorsllwyn Mai produced a filly foal by Henblas Hudwr Du, named Beech Hay Megan. This filly was only once ever out of the rosettes in her show career. Beech Hay Megan started a line of cobs that were sought after around the country and the USA.
Beech Hay Megan's offspring include Beech Hay Dairy Maid, Powysvalley Miss Molly and, now at Clay Farm, Beech Hay Desert Maid.
All of the cobs at Beech Hay stud are bred back to Beech Hay Megan.
We aim to produce good quality, straight moving, cobby animals of the old fashioned type. You will not find exaggerated "Hackney-like", waspy wasted animals here. Action is important to us but so is soundness and conformation. Selection for action alone loses the type, conformation and nature for which the Welsh Cob was famous.

She has a lovely pony appearance and is correct in every way; she is the image of her mother in a bay. Lovely limbs and a well proportioned body give her a balanced, attractive outlook.
Broken and ridden around the farm. She has been placed under saddle, 4th in a working hunter class and has won in-hand three times on the only three occasions shown. She is a tremendous ridden cob with good straight action, conformation and temperament.
